In 1931, when she was 17, she attended a lecture on yoga in Salt Lake City given by Paramahansa Yogananda. At the time she was sick and her face was swollen and scarred from a blood disorder and she was wearing bandages. Yogananda placed his hands on her forehead and proclaimed her well. As Daya Mata often recounted later, her scars disappeared and she was able to remove the bandages a week later.
